Goldberg: Avoid “Obama Derangement Syndrome”

Former CBS newsman Bernard Goldberg continues to be a beacon of common sense for the American right as he warned conservatives to stay away from the obsessive behavior that dominated the left during the Bush Administration.

During an appearance on the dreadful post-Colmes Hannity show, Goldberg told Hannity,

You remember when liberals wouldn’t give George Bush credit for anything? If he came up with a cure for cancer, they wouldn’t have given him credit for that, and I’m sorry, Sean, I see that on the right now.

You can read Newsbusters for the whole story, but as usual, Bernie is correct.  The right has tried to blunt the messianic tide of Obama-love, but they might as well try to stop the sun from rising.  Obama will get every benefit of the doubt from an adoring, slobbering media.  The only thing the right can do is to illustrate the absurdity of his policies, as the only thing that has gotten any traction during Obama’s first 100 days were the massive earmarks in the omnibus spending bill.

Obsessing over whether or not Obama actually deserves credit for saving the Maersk Alabama captain from Somali pirates or is bowing to Arabic leaders or hamming it up with Hugo Chavez is just spitting into the wind.  Americans will care far more how the Obama Administration’s policies affect their pocketbooks and their freedoms.

But in the loony right’s defense, it would be nice if the fawning media gave a little more attention to Obama’s missteps and focused more on the current administration’s issues and scandals than those of a failed vice-presidential candidate.  For example, Obama’s slip on fighting “the rise of privacy” instead of “piracy” would have been psychoanalyzed six ways from Sunday if Bush has made such a statement.  Dan Quayle was treated as a dunce for a slip on spelling “potato” but Joe Biden gets a pass for saying  J-O-B-S  is a three-letter word.
